Everything runs in your browser. Your text and files are never uploaded.
How do I convert text to Markdown?
Paste your text into the source box, or open a .txt, .html, .docx or .pdf file. The Markdown appears next to it as you type, with headings, lists and links in place. Check the result, then copy it or download a .md file. Everything happens on your device.
- Paste your text, or select Open a file to load a .txt, .html, .docx or .pdf.
- Choose how the source is read: Auto, Plain text or HTML.
- For plain text, switch the options on or off: detect headings, detect lists, join wrapped lines, escape special characters.
- Review the Markdown, and use Show preview to see how it will look.
- Select Copy, or Download .md to save the file.
Which files can I convert to Markdown?
The tool reads plain text, HTML, Word (.docx) and PDF. Word and HTML keep their structure, because headings, lists, links and tables are converted directly. Plain text and PDF have no structure to read, so headings and lists are detected from the layout of the text.
| Source | What is kept | Limits and notes |
|---|---|---|
| Plain text (.txt, .md, .log) | Paragraphs, plus headings and lists detected from the layout | Up to 5 MB. Underlined titles (=== and ---), ALL CAPS lines and bullets are recognised. |
| Pasted text | Whatever you paste | Copying from a web page or Word pastes the formatting as HTML, unless you set Read as to Plain text. |
| Web page / HTML (.html, .htm) | Headings, bold, italic, lists, links, images, quotes, code and tables | Up to 5 MB. Scripts, styles and frames are stripped before the file is read. |
| Word (.docx) | Headings, bold, italic, lists, links and tables | Up to 15 MB. Read with mammoth. Older .doc files are not supported: save them as .docx first. |
| PDF (.pdf) | The text layer, page by page | Up to 25 MB and 300 pages. Columns and tables often come out in a strange order, and a scanned PDF with no text layer comes out empty. |
Frequently asked questions
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Every conversion runs in your own browser, including Word and PDF files. Your text is never sent to mimobr.com or to any other server, so the tool is safe for private or confidential documents. It keeps working even if you go offline after the page has loaded.
Why does my PDF come out badly formatted?
A PDF stores where each piece of text sits on the page, not how the document is structured. Columns, tables and headers often end up out of order, and a scanned PDF holds images rather than text, so nothing can be extracted. Word files and web pages give far better results.
What do the plain text options do?
Detect headings turns underlined titles and ALL CAPS lines into Markdown headings. Detect lists turns bullets and numbered lines into Markdown lists. Join wrapped lines rebuilds paragraphs that were hard-wrapped. Escape special characters stops symbols such as * and _ being read as formatting.
Is pasting from a web page safe?
Yes. Pasted HTML and HTML files are cleaned with DOMPurify before anything is read: scripts, styles, frames, event handlers and unsafe links are removed. The preview is shown in a sandboxed frame that cannot run scripts, submit forms or navigate away.
Is the converter free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account or sign-up, has no ads and adds no watermark. There is no daily limit: the only limits are the file sizes, which exist so your browser does not run out of memory.
Who built this tool?
I'm Reinaldo Nani, a MarTech Stack Architect & DXP Manager based in São Paulo, Brazil. I write documentation in Markdown every day, so this converter does the boring half: it reads the file in your browser and hands back clean Markdown. It pairs with my Markdown to PDF converter.
